In House Hockey!
Pittsburgh Ice Arena, in conjunction with the North Hills Amateur Hockey Association (Pitsburgh Vipers), Burell Bucs Hockey, and Plum Mustangs Hockey will be offering in-house hockey this season!
Designed for players ages 9–14. Younger players must participate in the ADM/Mite program and play cross ice.The In-House program is for youth who already know how to skate, even if they are not expert skaters. If the player cannot skate it is urged that he/she participate in a group skating program at the rink.
The In-House program provides basic hockey instruction through the introduction and use of hockey drills (the same as players on a travel team). The program also focuses on developing basic hockey skills including skating, fundamentals of passing, shooting as well as team play concepts such as positioning, and on-ice awareness.
The beginning of each session is spent practicing basic skills. Depending upon the number and age of the participants, participants are usually divided into teams and may compete against each other. There is no checking in the In-House program (regardless of the age of the participants).
Because the In-house program stresses developing individual skills which are not taught as much in team practices, many members of travel/school teams can benefit from particpating in this program.
The In-House program will begin October 12, 2013, at 8:30 AM until 10:20 AM. Participants are guaranteed a minimun of 14 weeks. The cost of the entire program is $400.
All participants must wear full ice hockey equipment for every session. Jerseys will be supplied. Also every player must be registered with USA Hockey in order to participate. (You can go to www.USAHockey.com to register on line.
During the second half of the program, a few games maybe scheduled with other associations’ In-House teams. The scheduling of these games depends upon the number of participants, the desire of the families, and the developmental programs of nearby associations. This could result in the need to drive perhaps as far as an hour to a rink in Mt. Lebanon for example. We also may play local teams such as Delmont, Allegheny or Arctic Foxes. Teams may also come to Pittsburgh Ice Arena for games. This cannot be determined before the season begins as it is dependent upon the desires of our families involved and the existence of other associations’ programs.
At the end of the program participants may tryout for a place on a travel team for the upcoming season, one of the school teams or elect to sign-up for a second season in the Pittsburgh Viper In-House.
THERE WILL BE IN-HOUSE REGISTRATION FOR THE
2013-2014 SEASON AT THE RINK ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2013, FROM 10:00 AM UNTIL NOON.
